An existing coating on a concrete floor changes how a new epoxy project is approached. The old coating must be inspected for adhesion, type, and condition before any new system is applied.
If the existing coating is peeling, failing, or incompatible, it typically needs to be removed or mechanically prepared so the new system can bond to sound concrete — not to a failing layer beneath.
Grinding is central to this work. Mechanical grinding can remove old coating material and profile the concrete in one preparation step, depending on the condition.
We do not promise that epoxy can always go directly over an old coating. The right approach depends on what is on the floor and how well it is bonded.
